Private Equity Analyst (Contract)
THE OPPORTUNITY
We are looking for an exceptional candidate who will support the transaction team in our Vancouver office as an Analyst. Tricor is committed to building a diverse team and welcomes qualified candidates of all genders and backgrounds. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to actively participate in the acquisition and investment process, including market research, debt fundraising, due diligence, valuation of companies, business analysis, financial modelling and transaction execution. They will interface and correspond with sell-side advisors, negotiate and execute confidentiality agreements regarding new opportunities, prepare investment thesis presentations, and track and manage the pipeline of investment opportunities in our CRM software.
The ideal candidate will be a recent graduate with an outstanding academic record, one to two years of work experience (or equivalent through internship experience), and a demonstrated interest in finance, direct investing, the sourcing of opportunities and overall asset management. They will also have a track record of successfully working in a demanding, fast-paced environment and have exceptional attention to detail and time management skills.
Please note that this position will be offered as a two-year fixed term contract. Exceptional candidates may have the opportunity to convert to a permanent full-time position, subject to mutual fit.
TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Interface and correspond with advisors, negotiate and execute confidentiality agreements regarding new opportunities, and track and manage the pipeline of investment opportunities.
- Participate in selected telephone and face-to-face discussions regarding investment opportunities with sell-side advisors, representatives of target company management, and Tricor’s partners.
- Model returns for shareholders for different operating companies and real estate investments using target company or asset financial statements/growth forecasts, as well as assumptions regarding capital structure and financing.
- Prepare meeting materials for pitching sell-side advisors or selling shareholders and/or incumbent management teams.
- Prepare first drafts of investment theses for use by Tricor’s partners in green lighting an offer to acquire an operating company or other assets, as well as a final decision to close.
- Draft offer letters and term sheets, adapted from existing templates, to describe the benefits of a transaction with Tricor and detail the proposed terms, etc.
- Initiate data requests, manipulate and evaluate diligence data, and manage Tricor’s data room related to any transaction.
- Review legal documentation associated with a transaction.
- Prepare internal reports, including quarterly board packs, assets under management valuation, financial and operating key performance indicators, etc.
- Assist with various strategic fund initiatives, including asset allocation and capital deployment plans.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
- An undergraduate degree (preferably in finance or accounting) with high academic standing
- Professional designation (e.g. CPA, CFA, or CBV) is not required but is considered an asset
- One to two years of relevant work experience (e.g. transaction services, consulting, corporate development, corporate finance, M&A, commercial banking)
- Advanced skills in Excel (including financial modelling), Word and PowerPoint
- Exposure to, and/or demonstrated interested in (a) sophisticated financial modelling including valuation analysis and LBOs; (b) business development and marketing tools, (c) drafting pitch books and investment theses; and (d) participating in acquisition due diligence
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Uncompromising attention to detail and commitment to producing high quality work

WHAT WE OFFER

- Salary range of $70,000 – $75,000 (determined by the individual’s skillset and experience) plus a short-term performance bonus.
